EVERFI Celebrates Black History Month Through National Partnerships Honoring African-American Achievement

Organizations, sports teams, and athletes back digital courses exploring the lives of pioneering African-Americans throughout history

Washington D.C. (February 1, 2018) – EVERFI, Inc., the nation’s leading education technology innovator used in 1 in 7 public schools nationwide, today commemorated Black History Month by underscoring the impact of their digital African-American history course, 306, and announcing all of the school-based events planned with partnering sponsors.

“For years, the representation of African American history —the figures and events that changed the fabric of America’s social and political identity—has often been overlooked in our national curriculum,” said President of Sports and Entertainment, Brian Cooley. “Thanks to our partnerships with athletes and organizations who truly believe in the power of technology, EVERFI’s course has created a personal learning experience that allows students across the country to learn about the heroes and heroines who ignited change and redefined history.”

During the 2017 school year, after taking 306, students reported an increase in their knowledge of and appreciation for African-American history in particular. Following the course, about seven-in-ten students say they can explain how civil rights shaped our country and that learning about other people’s struggles makes them stronger. Additionally, students expressed a strong desire to engage in their communities, be more active citizens, and vote.

School events will be hosted throughout the month of February and will celebrate students who completed the digital course, which aligns with Common Core State Standards for Writing and Literacy in History/Social Studies and is available to schools at no cost thanks to EVERFI’s partners.
