EVERFI Launches First-of-its-Kind Prescription Drug Safety Network and New Digital Course with Students in Columbus

U.S. Senator Rob Portman, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Advocates, Support National Network Committed to Combatting Prescription Drug Abuse Through Prevention Education

Columbus, OH –  October 26, 2017 – EVERFI, Inc., the nation’s leading prevention education innovator used in 1 in 7 schools nationwide, today announced the launch of the Prescription Drug Safety Network, a national coalition of partners committed to using proven and innovative prevention education to empower Americans with the skills to make safe and healthy decisions about prescription  drug use for themselves, their families, and their communities.

EVERFI traveled to Linden McKinley STEM Academy in Columbus, Ohio and met with students currently taking  EVERFI’s new prescription drug abuse course launched this fall.

“Ohio is facing the worst public health crisis in our lifetime, leading the nation in opioid overdose deaths. In 2016, 4,050 Ohioans lost their lives to overdoses,” said Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. “That’s why I’ve advocated for annual, age appropriate drug prevention education, every year in grades Kindergarten through Twelfth grade.”

“Prescription drug abuse has dealt a devastating blow to communities across the country, yet there are few programs aimed at positively preventing the abuse before it occurs, and even fewer aimed at empowering youth with the knowledge they need to stay safe,” said EVERFI CEO Tom Davidson. “Through the Prescription Drug Safety Network we are bringing together industry leaders,  state officials, policy, and community organizations committed to combatting this scourge by investing in prevention education.  It is something we can all agree upon.”

The Prescription Drug Safety Network launch was also lauded by U.S. Senator Rob Portman (D-OH) , who sent a video greeting commending the students for participating in the new course supported by the Network.

EVERFI’s Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention course released this fall.
