EVERFI Partners with Florida Commissioner of Education on African-American History Initiative

EverFi, Inc. today announced a statewide partnership with the FloridaCommissioner of Education’s African-American History Task Force (AAHTF) that will bring EverFi’s digital African-American History program to hundreds of schools across the state of Florida. Developed by the Florida Department of Education, the task force is focused on identifying and driving adoption of instructional programs that support the teaching and learning of African-American History.

“We are committed to continually improving the well-being of our state, and this starts with empowering young people to develop a stronger sense of self and respect for each other,” said former State Senator Anthony (Tony) Hill, Chair of the AAHTF. “EverFi is a leader in providing web-based education to learners nationwide, and we are proud to bring their cutting-edge curriculum to students across Florida in partnership with local businesses.”

EverFi’s 306 – African-American History™ course was developed in conjunction with renowned African-American History scholar Dr.Clayborne Carson who serves as Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Research Institute at Stanford University. The mission of the course is to inform and empower today’s students through specific events, individuals, and concepts that have played a major role in African-American history.

“Too often Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and African-History Month are simply a worksheet, a video, or a poster on the wall,” said EverFi CEO Tom Davidson. “We must do more. This digital course captures the imagination of a new generation of students and inspires them with stories of grit, strength, intellect, and creativity that they can apply to their own lives.”

EverFi’s Florida-based activation team will manage all school integration, teacher training, and professional development activities. To date, EverFi has trained teachers at 134 schools in Florida and hundreds of other schools across the country.

EverFi will host a recognition event at Jean Ribault High School in Jacksonville on February 11, 2016 to honor students and educators who have taken part in the program. The event will include Chair Tony Hill, board members of the AAHTF, and student presentations.
