Building Entrepreneurship Skills with Empathy

Business & Compassion Education for Middle School

Empathy is a key building block in student development. It lays the foundation for emotional intelligence, personal and social responsibility, and emotional awareness - all skills that lead to greater efficacy both in the classroom and beyond.

What happens when educators center their entrepreneurship curriculum around empathy and use it as a foundation for further learning? Teachers Usha Iype and Patrick Bresnahan found that they could better reach their middle school students by integrating empathy training into their middle school business education classes. The result was a real-world exercise in empathy within the walls of their school community and beyond, as they tackled some of the biggest challenges facing our nation and the world today.

By integrating empathy education into a business unit or class, educators can empower students as both entrepreneurs and empathetic beings. Join us to explore the integration of social-emotional learning and entrepreneurship, the activities you can use with your own students, and free digital resources to support student learning, whether you’re teaching online or in-person.
