Wilson Chandler Partners With EVERFI to Launch the Wilson Chandler Digital Scholars Program

Berrien County, MI.– Denver Nuggets professional basketball player and Benton Harbor native, Wilson Chandler today announced the launch of the Wilson Chandler Digital Scholars program. This new educational initiative is powered by EVERFI, Inc., the leading education technology innovator found in 1 in 7 public schools nationwide.

The Wilson Chandler Digital Scholars program is an interactive, web-based program comprised of two digital courses, Ignition-Digital Literacy and ResponsibilityTM and 306- African American HistoryTM, that will help students build the critical skills they need to be successful in life.

“It gives me a tremendous amount of pride to provide critical educational opportunities in classrooms across my hometown of Benton Harbor and across Berrien County,” said Wilson Chandler. “There are many challenges facing youth today and this partnership with EVERFI will help equip them with skills to understand our shared history and be tomorrow’s leading innovators.”

Ignition is a digital literacy and responsibility course designed to educate students on the nuts and bolts of how technology works while placing them in virtual environments to tackle issues surrounding digital citizenship. Students learn how to live and succeed in the modern digital world filled with smartphones, computers, internet, online identity risks, and cyberbulling, while also helping students understand the technology skills needed for the jobs of tomorrow.

306 introduces students to African-American history in science, academia, music, and arts as it takes students through the African American journey in the twentieth century. The course is filled with stories of inspirational civic leaders who made great contributions to today’s society.  Through important primary texts and compelling vignettes, 306 communicates this history in a way that builds shared values and inspires today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders.

“We’re incredibly excited to work with Wilson and grateful for his leadership in providing students with these critical skills.” said Brian Cooley, President of EVERFI Sports & Entertainment. “He is a role model in Berrien County and his hometown of Benton Harbor and this furthers his impact for hundreds of students. ”

The Wilson Chandler Digital Scholars program is being implemented directly in schools across Berrien County at no cost to the schools or students.
